APPALACHIAN LEARNING INITIATIVE LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
MORGANTOWN, W. Va., July 28, 2022—The Appalachian Learning Initiative (APPLI, pronounced "apply") has launched its new website.
"We are excited for the release of our new site," said APPLI Founder and Executive Director, Marcus J. Hopkins. "Much of our focus has been on creating informative social media content for our channels, so it's an excellent step for us to launch what will soon become our base of digital operations."
The new website provides information about the research APPLI conducts related to adult literacy, adult numeracy, and the underlying causes that impact illiteracy and innumeracy in Appalachia, as well as their research into health literacy and its impacts on infectious disease incidence, prevalence, and treatment across the region.
“The link between literacy and health outcomes is well-established,” said Hopkins. “People who face difficulties with reading are more likely to experience negative health outcomes, particularly those living with chronic diseases like HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and Substance Use Disorders.”
The Appalachian Learning Initiative is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in November 2021 that focuses on researching, reporting on, advocating for, and building solutions to address issues related to adult literacy, numeracy, health literacy, and equitable access to services in the 13-state, 423-county Appalachian Region. APPLI is based in Morgantown, WV, and can be reached at info@appli.org for more information.
